Enyimba on course for 8th title
Enyimba are on track for a seventh Nigeria league cham-
pionship after they pipped Kwara United 1-0 at home on
Wednesday.
‘The People’s Elephant’ now have 65 points from 35
matches, while closest rivals Warri Wolves, who are on 59
points, play on Thursday after they requested their game at
Lobi Stars be shifted following a pay strike by their players.
Giwa FC upstaged closest rivals Wikki Tourists with a late
winner by Amos Gyang when it had looked like both teams
would split the points at 2-2.
Skipper Chinedu Udoji netted his fourth goal of the season in
the 22nd minute, when he headed home a corner by Ezekiel
Bassey, to ensure full marks for Enyimba at home against
struggling Kwara United, who sank deeper in the drop zone.
Nzube Anaezemba’s free kick was stopped by Kazeem
Yekeen as early as the fifth minute, before the impressive
Bassey failed to hit target from the edge of the box after he
beat his marker in the 15th minute.
Andrew Abalogu then missed a sitter for Enyimba in the 41st
minute when he was one-on-one with the Kwara United
goalkeeper.
Ezekiel Bassey hit the woodwork from 25 yards just two
minutes into the second half and in the 68th minute, Kazeem
Yekeen denied Kingsley Sokari. Three minutes to end the
game, Sokari failed to score from six yards after he rounded
up Yekeen.
